Dark Matter, September 2005

'Dark Matter':
A black-Box performtive installation project, which allowed small groups to engage and commune with the cosmological mystery which accounts for most of the unseen, non-planetary matter in our universe.

This project was also about acknowledging the personal and cultural shadow: that which is darkened out of ignorance or purposeful banishment.

Documentation on the nature of Dark Matter was given to each participant and reference notes were pinned to the walls of the darkened room.

Each volunteer sat in a chair as the mesh veil of Dark Matter was lowered over her, obscuring her face. The rest of the group held hands, 'holding space' for the experience, as the artist dialed in cosmic sounds attuned for each individual.

Water percolated through tubing in a giant paper cone and lights emanated from the mysterious interior of a cardboard tower. Spare parts from the shadow engine lay around the perimieter

As the veil was lifted, the engine regurgitated a bag of Dark Matter remnants as a trace of the experience.
